Ingredients of Vegetarian Tikki

  1. You need 1 cup of Rajma or Red kidney beans.
  2. It's 1 of medium size onion.
  3. You need 1 of medium size carrot.
  4. It's 2 of medium size potatoes.
  5. Prepare 1 of lime juice.
  6. It's 1/2 tsp of coriander powder.
  7. Prepare 1/2 tsp of cumin powder.
  8. Prepare 1/2 tsp of red chilli powder.
  9. You need 2 Tbsp of Besan or Chickpea flour.
  10. Prepare 1/2 tsp of ginger garlic paste.
  11. It's 1 inch of cinnamon stick.
  12. You need 1 of bay leaf.
  13. It's 2 of green cardamom.
  14. You need 1 Spring of coriander leaves chopped and more for garnishing.
  15. You need as needed of Oil to fry.
  16. It's to taste of Salt.

If you like spicy food, increase the amount of crushed red pepper. I made this vegan tikka masala with eggplant (aubergine) and garbanzo beans (chickpeas) because I think Indian flavors + tomatoes + garbanzos + eggplant= heaven. However, I have added lots of different veggies on other occasions to great success, mushrooms, in particular, go really well with the sauce. Vegetarian Tikki step by step

  1. Soak the Rajma or Red kidney beans overnight and boil. Drain completely and make a coarse paste.
  2. Boil potatoes and grate.
  3. Grate carrots.
  4. Grate onions.
  5. Roast Besan or chickpea flour.
  6. Add all ingredients like potatoes, carrots, besan, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder, lime juice, chopped coriander leaves to coarse Rajma mix. Add salt.
  7. In a wok heat oil and add bay leaf, cardamom and cinnamon stick. When splutters add ginger-garlic paste and grated onions. Fry till golden and discard the bay leaf, cinnamon and cardamom. Add the fried onions to the Rajma mix.
  8. Make small balls and flatten them. In a wok heat oil and fry.
  9. Enjoy with mint-coriander Chutney.
