Wash and soak the green gram and urad dal separately. Serve whole green moong dal with steamed rice or chapatis. While serving this green gram curry, you can garnish with a few coriander leaves if you want. Heat the tawa, pour the dosa batter and spread it evenly in a circularmotion (for dosa shape).

  1. Wash and soak both the grams for 6-8 hours in adequate water.
  2. Drain the water after the soaking period.
  3. Grind the grams with garlic and chilli using very little or no water.
  4. Transfer the batter to a large bowl and keep covered for 3-4 hours for fermentation.
  5. Before cooking, add soda bicarb and salt to the batter. Mix well.
  6. Grease idli trays and add 1-2 tablespoons of the batter in each and steam for 8-10 minutes.
  7. Let cool and demould the idlis.
  8. Serve warm with your choice of chutnies/sambhar/veg stew.
  9. Alternatively, you can make dosas of the batter too. The entire process remains the same, just skip adding the soda bicarb to the batter.
