Ingredients of Vegetarian Dhanshak

  1. Prepare 2 tablespoon of chana daal/ split chickpeas lentil.

  8. Prepare 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder.

  11. It's 1 of lemon Juice.
  12. Prepare 1/2 inch of ginger grated.
  13. You need 5 of garlic pearls chopped finely.
  14. It's 2 of green chillies made to paste.
  15. It's 1 tablespoon of Dhanshak powder.
  16. Prepare 1 of large onion chopped finely.
  17. Prepare 1 of small tomato chopped.

Dhanshak is a Parsi traditional dish cooked with meat. Vegetarian Dhanshak instructions

  1. Pre soak the lentils at least for 30 minutes prior cooking them after washing thoroughly.
  2. Strain the lentils and keep aside.
  3. Add the lentils to a pressure cooker and add about 2 cups of water to it. Start the stove now and keep on medium heat.
  4. Add the turmeric powder and salt to taste. mix well.
  5. Next add half the onions chopped to the lentils.
  6. Add mixed chopped vegetables and mix for a while.
  7. Next throw in the fenugreek and mint leaves and mix well for about 2-3 minutes.
  8. Now pressure cook for upto 4-5 whistles and switch off the stove.
  9. For the masala/tempering:.
  10. Melt ghee/ butter in a wok and add the remaining onions and sauté till they are slightly brown.
  11. Next add the tomatoes and cook on Low heat covered till they are soft.
  12. Add chopped garlic-ginger and cumin powder.
  13. Followed by red chilli and Dhanshak powders.
  14. Add the green chilli paste.Mix well and take off heat.
  15. Open the cooker to check the lentil mix. If slightly uncooked, use a masher to mash the lentils and vegetables.
  16. Put it back on stove and keep on Low heat.
  17. Add the masala/tempering prepared to the lentils and mix well and let simmer.
  18. Next add the lemon juice.
  19. Finish by mixing coriander leaves..
  20. Serve warm with the accompaniment of your choice.
  21. My tip: if you are unable to find Dhanshak masala, use a strong flavoured curry or regular garam masala powder.
